Eeyore’s Birthday – Keeping Austin Weird

Austin is known for “keeping it weird,” and there’s one notorious event that illustrates that badge of honor like no other. Every April, the town celebrates the birthday of the character “Eeyore” from the beloved children’s literary series, Winnie the Pooh. Costumes, live unamplified music, painted bodies (sometimes unclothed) and a general vibe of total (and, in many cases, herbal) relaxation will take over the park… in fact, the event is so laid-back, its website creators forgot to list the location on this year’s page. Austinites know, though, that it takes place in Pease Park on the Greenbelt off North Lamar Blvd., just north of Martin Luther King Blvd. This year’s party will mark its 48th year in existence.
