Although this town may be known for its mind-boggling array of delicious foods, from the oh-so-standard standbys of BBQ and Tex-Mex to world-class sushi, raw and vegan delights and farm-to-table cuisine (not to mention our food trucks, of course), one thing that isn’t typically synonymous with Austin is pizza.
Sure, there’s the hipster paradise that is Homeslice, beloved as much for its name and its sweet-tart-accompanied receipts as its actual food, and East Side Pies does a respectable job with the New York classic, but The Side Bar is a little-known pizza-baking gem tucked away downtown at 7th and Red River. The drinks are strong and the sauce is hot; in fact, it’s one of the best pies we’ve tasted in Texas. Blink and you’ll miss it; we advise that you don’t.
