Every Thursday: Open Mic Night at The Velveeta Room

Since 1988, The Velveeta Room has stood proudly next to Esther’s Follies on East 6th Street, bringing the LOLs (and sometimes the groans) as only it can.  One of Austin’s most well-known comedy clubs, the venue yuks it up with the same cheesy decor that was originally there whenthe club’s owner took over the space — hence the name, which also applies delightfully well to some of the comedic acts that take the stage on any given night.  Thursdays are open mic night at The Velveeta Room beginning at 9:30; step onstage and crack some jokes if you dare, or just sit back and be thankful it isn’t you up there.  Either way, a good time’s just waiting to be had, and since laughter is the best medicine, by the end of the week, we generally don’t mind a dose of it ourselves.
