Annual Austin Kite Festival

The Zilker Park Kite Festival is quite a sight to behold. Every March since 1956, the park has welcomed thousands of sun-seekers on a Saturday designated for kite-flying. The event offers kite-making (guaranteeing that your kite will be ready to fly in 10 minutes or less) and an annual competition hosted by the City of Austin and The Exchange Club (an organization dedicated to fostering creativity in children), as well as sponsor booths selling refreshments. It’s the longest-running kite festival in the United States and a favorite yearly occasion for lots of locals.
